{"id":351,"date":"2025-04-23T20:47:53","date_gmt":"2025-04-23T18:47:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monielo.org\/?page_id=351"},"modified":"2026-10-05T23:35:57","modified_gmt":"2026-10-05T21:35:57","slug":"la-ferme","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.monielo.org\/en\/la-ferme\/","title":{"rendered":"The Farm"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Monielo Farm \u2013 Maman C\u00e9lia<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Monielo farm grew out of three questions the whole team kept returning to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>How to earn an income locally in Kinshasa, and relieve our sponsors by no longer resting everything on their donations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How to open new opportunities for the young people we support.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How to put good, healthy food on the table, regularly<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The COVID-19 pandemic, world events and their many consequences \u2014 together with the farming potential of the DR Congo \u2014 settled the matter unanimously: an organic, semi-industrial farm, employing local staff, serving Monielo's core purpose, which is to give widowed or abandoned mothers the means to stand on their own, so they can provide for their children's schooling and their needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>MONIELO has acquired two sites, of 14 and 10 hectares, on the Bat\u00e9k\u00e9 Plateau.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The farm began on 4 hectares, growing maize and cassava<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The first two years were given over to learning, and to building farming skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From 2025 the project enters a new phase: processing, a cooperative, and more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<section id=\"g-1g2x11n\" class=\"wp-block-gutentor-m10 section-g-1g2x11n gutentor-module g-gm-module\"><div class=\"grid-container\"><div class=\"grid-row g-gm-item-wrap\">\n<div id=\"col-g-r9dnibh\" class=\"wp-block-gutentor-m10-col col-g-r9dnibh gutentor-module g-gm-col grid-lg-4 grid-md-4 grid-12\"><div id=\"section-g-r9dnibh\" class=\"section-g-r9dnibh gutentor-single-col\">\n<div id=\"section-g-jrorvth\" class=\"wp-block-gutentor-e6 section-g-jrorvth gutentor-element gutentor-element-image\"><div class=\"gutentor-element-image-box\"><div class=\"gutentor-image-thumb\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"normal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.monielo.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IMAGE-2025-04-23-210255.png\"\/><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"col-g-l5llr16\" class=\"wp-block-gutentor-m10-col col-g-l5llr16 gutentor-module g-gm-col grid-lg-4 grid-md-4 grid-12\"><div id=\"section-g-l5llr16\" class=\"section-g-l5llr16 gutentor-single-col\">\n<div id=\"section-g-w3grg73\" class=\"wp-block-gutentor-e6 section-g-w3grg73 gutentor-element gutentor-element-image\"><div class=\"gutentor-element-image-box\"><div class=\"gutentor-image-thumb\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"normal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.monielo.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/photo_2025-04-23-21.19.41.jpeg\"\/><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"col-g-wk16r42\" class=\"wp-block-gutentor-m10-col col-g-wk16r42 gutentor-module g-gm-col grid-lg-4 grid-md-4 grid-12\"><div id=\"section-g-wk16r42\" class=\"section-g-wk16r42 gutentor-single-col\">\n<div id=\"section-g-1m98l2w\" class=\"wp-block-gutentor-e6 section-g-1m98l2w gutentor-element gutentor-element-image\"><div class=\"gutentor-element-image-box\"><div class=\"gutentor-image-thumb\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"normal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.monielo.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/photo_2025-04-23-21.19.25.jpeg\"\/><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<section id=\"section-g-1djrrwr\" class=\"wp-block-gutentor-divider section-g-1djrrwr gutentor-element gutentor-section gutentor-divider text-center\"><div class=\"grid-container\"><div class=\"gutentor-divider-box\"><span class=\"gutentor-divider-separator\"><\/span><\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The cooperative<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The cooperative Les Femmes Fortes \u2014 the Strong Women \u2014 will carry a wider economic project, so that these women can sell what they grow without anxiety and, wherever possible, process it and add value to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Looking for ways to address women's poverty, we turned to the farmland available around Kinshasa. In the outlying areas of the city, where most people live rurally, women carry much of the economic and social weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The cooperative will allow them to learn new skills, to master new techniques, and to be paid properly for their work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It should also make trade easier. Every year, several tonnes of cassava are lost for want of processing and transport.
